Black Mesa:

Black Mesa Source is a re-imagining of the original Half-Life game; a ground-breaking title which still sits in the top 10 PC games on metacritic.com, despite being nearly fifteen years old. Black Mesa isn’t yet complete but it showcases Valve’s beautiful Source engine that has powered Half-Life 2 and the Portal releases. You take control of Doctor Gordon Freeman, a survivor of an experiment gone wrong at the Black Mesa research facility, as you fight for your life against the alien Xen and the marines who are out to kill anything that moves.

Team Fortress 2:

Even among paid-for games, Team Fortress comes highly recommended. It’s a first-person shooter based on opposing teams with nine different classes each with different weapons and abilities. Another Valve release, it gained widespread critical acclaim when it was released. Critics focused on the light-heated game-play, the cartoonist graphics and the well-designed maps.

Auto Club Revolution:

This game lets players drive some of the world’s most desirable cars. The graphics are sublime – see the demo trailer with the orange BMW roadster if you’re in any doubt. You can race or drive for pleasure on many real-world course. Of course, if you’re the sort of person who prefers to bet on car racing you can visit Betsson Sportsbook.

Planetside 2:

Planetside 2 is a Massively Multiplayer first person shooter where battles take place between thousands of online combatants. The graphics easily rival those of modern shooters and the action takes places in open fields, urban centres or enormous structures. Game radar has, with good reason, called it “the future of the fps genre”.

Quake Live:

It speaks volumes about the progress made in the computer industry that you can now play a game as good as Quake in your web browser. The pace is about as frenetic as it comes with first-person shooters and the game has lost none of its appeal.

Star Wars: The Old Republic:

Star Wars is nothing if not action-packed. The free to play MMO from EA isn’t the greatest of games but it’s satisfying for fans of the franchise and features eight different classes. Play as an Imperial Agent, a Bounty Hunter, or a plain old Jedi Knight.

Battlestar Galactica:

battlestar

Fans of the original TV series and the remake will be pleased at this free offering. Lovers of Adama and crew will look forward to piloting an Imperial Fighter in defence of the Battlestar from the evil Cylons. Those who share more in common with the robotic antagonists will enjoy taking their side in the fight. The aim of the game is to take control of outposts with lots of flying, mining and mouse-based action.
