There is really no doubt about it – it’s going to be a hell of a closing quarter for iPhone fans this year! The reason being that not only are we in for the usual iPhone refresh sometime between now and October, but evidence is mounting that there will actually be two iPhones heading our way before the year is out.
Yes, it’s going to be historic few months for Apple and a pretty chaotic Christmas shopping seasons for the firm millions of loyal fans the world over. So in specifics, what have Tim Cook and Co. go in store for us with the next iPhone…or iPhones?
iPhone 5S: (Expected Design of iPhone 5S)
As expected, the next device in line to the iOS throne is of course the iPhone 5S. This will arrive as the successor to the current iPhone 5 and hopefully deliver the kinds of specs and features to make a name for itself.
Colors: In terms of overall design, the general consensus is that the iPhone 5S will be almost identical to the iPhone 5. There won’t be any different in the overall size of the thing, the case will be deigned pretty much in the same way and the only real difference will be a slight reduction in weight. Well, that and the possibility of a few new colour choices for the outer-casing – one of which being a rumoured “Champagne Gold” variant we’re not exactly won over by so far.
Screen: The 4-inch screen size will remain the same, which to be honest is more than big enough for the time-being. Under the hood, there’s talk of a faster processor powering the operation, while the camera to the rear could be upgraded to a 13-megapixels sensor of truly epic quality.
Hardware: And rounding off the hardware changes comes the near-guaranteed inclusion of a fingerprint sensor built into the physical home button. Not only will this transform the iPhone 5S into one of the securest smartphones on the market today, but chances are it will also be a pretty cool toy to play with!
Operating System: Top it all off with iOS 7 which is scheduled to debut with the iPhone 5S and you have yourself a front-runner for the title of the year’s most exciting and impressive smartphone. Sure it’s not all that different from the iPhone 5, but why fix what’s clearly far from broken?
iPhone 5C:
As far as the iPhone 5C is confirmed, this is said to be the affordable plastic iPhone millions have been hankering after for years. For the most part we’ll be looking at the same specs and features already presented by the iPhone 4S and some from the iPhone 5, all wrapped up in a plastic casing to keep costs to an absolute minimum.
As such, the iPhone 5C will be slightly larger and bulkier than the iPhone 5S and perhaps a little heavier too. It’s also likely to carry a smaller battery and lower internal storage options – again in the name of keeping costs to a minimum.
The iPhone 5C’s camera will be limited to either 5 or 8-megapixels, the processor under the hood will be one of Apple’s existing chips and there’s little chance of a fingerprint sensor making it here. iOS 7 will however be included for the most cutting-edge user experience to date.
And the biggest appeal of all presented by the iPhone 5C will hopefully be its price – analysts are expecting the unlocked version to hit the shelves for no more than about $350 – less than half the amount usually payable for Apple’s latest and greatest smartphone releases.
Expect an announcement to be made by Apple toward the end of August, followed by a release of the pair sometime in the early autumn.
