For a few years the Apple iPhone was the phone to have. It was the fastest, sexiest, and simply best cell phone on the market.
However, in recent years either Apple have lost their innovation skills, or other companies have wised up to Apple’s methods and become more competitive.
HTC is an excellent example. The new HTC One X is a stunning achievement of a phone. Sure, there are a few things that the iPhone is better at, but not many. And pitting the HTC One X head to head against the iPhone, it’s clear to see where your money should be spent.
The days when the iPhone was automatically the phone of choice if you wanted a great device are long over. Nowadays, everyone can do what Apple does, and sometimes they do it better…
Giving the iPhone a Break…
Okay, so there are a couple of things about the iPhone that still work for us. The first is the storage capacity. The iPhones come with a maximum of 64 GB of internal storage, still the best on the market. The HTC on the other hand comes with 32 GB, meaning you get double the amount of pics and videos on your iPhone.
Apple has a few more PPI (pixels per inch) on the screen, making it a wee bit clearer, but honestly, it’s hardly noticeable.
The other thing that the iPhone does well is size. It’s smaller, thinner and lighter than the HTC, about thirty percent smaller, which is a lot. The iPhone is definitely compact for the amount of power that it holds, which we do like. However, we just don’t like it enough…
The HTC Rocks Our World…
First, let’s discuss speed. The HTC is frankly faster. It runs a 1500 MHz processor, compared to the Apple’s 1300 MHz, making it snappier and more responsive, and for this amount of money we expect our phones to be fast.
It also gets faster maximum data speeds, by a factor of about eight and a half, meaning you get faster downloads and web pages open immediately. The screen has about thirty per cent higher resolution. Plus, the screen is around forty per cent larger (4.7 inches to the iPhone’s four inches), which is where a lot of the HTC’s extra size and weight comes from.
You get way more stand by time, with the HTC offering an average of a whopping seventeen days of stand by (the iPhone can only manage around ten days).
And you get more talk time too, with the HTC averaging around ten hours of talk time per battery charge cycle, as opposed to the iPhones eight hours.
But the thing that we really like, and the thing that will continue to seal the deal for us on Android phones, is that the HTC can run multiple applications at the same time. You can browse the web and talk on Skype without losing your connection. Apple has always had a problem supporting this function, which is an important one nowadays, when so many people use their phones for so many different activities.
Apple Loses…
What it comes down to is that the HTC is faster, bigger and better. Apple need to run fast to catch up with companies like HTC, or they’re rapidly going to lose their market share…
