Some people still are a little suspicious of digital and mobile devices. After all, these things weren’t around 30 years ago. Many complain that mobiles draw our attention away from other people. They don’t like the idea of everybody being confined within their little world, playing video games and texting their friends. But this simply isn’t the reality for many people. For lots of a new generation of users, these devices are tools of integration and friendship. In their new ad campaign “Movie Magic”, Samsung sets out to show us how.
Each Galaxy device has great creative potential, at least in the work they are able to produce. In the new ad, a burgeoning independent filmmaker sets out to make her first masterpiece. Far from the intimidating world of Hollywood, this young woman casts her friends and neighbors, even some strangers off the street who catch her eye. Her film also isn’t what you might expect. It’s not a drama or a rom-com or a mumblecore indie bore. It’s a space epic, with homemade special effects and costumes!
Everybody in the production seems to be having a great time, going beyond what they thought they were capable of. Samsung Galaxy products are ubiquitous in the production. She’s filming with the Note, running storyboards on the Tab, and communicating with her patient boyfriend through the Gear S. Nothing runs perfectly smoothly, but it’s a joyful ramshackle production, one that is very relatable to the average person who could never imagine helming Avatar. In the end, Samsung chooses not to show us the final product. Not even a snippet. And still, we want to have a hand in the production, to do something like this ourselves. The Samsung tools are used to make something truly wonderful, whatever the result. Sometimes creativity is its own reward, and this is never more apparent than this ad made by Samsung for the latest Galaxy products.
