You may have heard of search engine optimisation, you may not have, but for most the subject of SEO is a little confusing. With so many conflicting opinions out there of what SEO involves it’s no wonder many of us are a little unsure. SEO is over complicated, especially when it comes to a beginners guide. SEO professionals forget that the majority of us don’t understand jargon and industry used terms. So, what is SEO- in simple terms?

SEO_Basics

The Basic Idea :

To put it simply, SEO is the practice of working to get a particular website ranking on search engines, particularly Google. Think about when you search for something on Google, the list which comes up is usually numbered. The first few websites that are displayed are usually Google adverts, bellow these ads are the organic results. These are not here by chance or mistake. They are here because of SEO. The aim for any company is to appear in the top three results and if not certainly on the first page. 90% of people do not click further than the first page and 85% click no further than the third search result.

Key Words :

There are several things which factor into where a website shows up on Google, the main being key words. As a business or website owner practicing SEO, you will have looked into the search terms in which people may search when looking for the services you provide or your product. Using these key words you will then work towards optimising the search terms and linking them to relevant pages on your site.

Key words are chosen carefully and are chosen according to competition, relevance and monthly searches.

What Are The Benefits?

SEO means that your website will start to be found more and by the right people. The higher your site climbs on Google for the relevant search terms the more clicks you will get. Obviously you want these clicks to turn into a sale, whether that be a product or a service, so it is essential that relevant key words are chosen to ensure the person clicking on your site is looking for your product or service.

Huge amounts of business are now conducted online. SEO is essential to the online aspect of a business’s success.

What Are The Options?

SEO is not something to be taken on lightly, it includes a lot of work, time and effort. If you do take on your own SEO professional advice is recommended to begin with.
