Extracting Text from a PDF:
Getting the text out of a document can be done in multiple ways. Start by looking at how much text and how detailed the formatting is around what you need to extract. If you only want to take a small amount of text out of the document it will be best to use the “copy with formatting” tool. This will give you the text you need in a line by line format. If you’re transferring the text into word for example it will even use the same format found in Word by using the “match destination formatting”.
If something a little bigger is on the agenda, like extracting an entire document which is full of columns, headings, images, and all of the accoutrements found in a detailed PDF, you will want to use the “export section” feature. This will allow the exported content to remain in the same position with all of the images in line and with the same format as the original. All in all, extracting text from PDF using these simple procedures will give you the best results.
Extracting Images from a PDF:
The ability to remove images from a PDF document and preserve their integrity for other use is just as simple as extracting text. There are several ways to do this, but it’s best to use the “snapshot tool”. This tool allows you to take a picture of anywhere in the document, and since we’re focusing on taking images from a PDF you will simply take a snapshot of an image by drawing a box around it. Once the image is copied simply paste it wherever you need it. The keyboard function for paste is CTRL V with Windows and command V on a Mac. Using this method you won’t be tied down to only copying images, text or any other part of a document can be captured this way.
If you’re interested in copying an image without the “snapshot tool” it is also very easy to do. Simply click on the image you want to copy. There will be an icon that pops up in the top left-hand corner of your selected image that reads, “copy image to clipboard”. Click on that icon and you’ve got it! The image is now on your clipboard and can be pasted wherever it’s needed. Open up your word document, image editor, or wherever and paste. You’re done!
