This clever Android app works with your phones camera, GPS and sensor to try and alert you of any collision possibilities. When you’re driving as you approach a vehicle or vehicles, it can alert you visually or via audio. This is great in heavy traffic lanes or on lanes where you need to keep a constant visual on the car in front of you. This app also has a speeding alert feature, car locator and lane departure warnings.

2. Drive Safe Mode (iPhone) –
This app allows you to literally lock your phone while driving so that you cannot text even if you wanted to. The phone does not turn off and you can program it so you have quick access to one or two important numbers along with access to 911. This one is great for the text happy teens in your life. But applies to anyone really. The app is not free, it’s 2.99 and available online via the Drive Safe Mode site or via your phone.

3. Safely Go (Android) –
This one is similar to the app above but has a few extra neat features as well. You can have the phone send a text or email to those who contact you, when you’re out and about or driving. Your hands never touch the phone, its done automatically for you – when you enable the feature. This is great not just for when you’re driving, but when you’re playing a sports game, at the pool, beach, etc.

4. My Max Speed (iPhone) –
This app is great for parents of new drivers such as teens who might be too eager to get behind the wheel and speed. As you know speeding is one of the leading causes of accidents on the road, whether it’s a teen or not. So keeping a log of your new teen drivers habits is a good way to not ensure your peace of mind, but also a great way to teach your teen that speeding leads to tickets, fines and sometimes much worse.
