I advertise my own products in my blog and I get good exposure by advertising those products and services. I utilize my blog by:

I personally use HostGator affiliate program and MyThemeShop affiliate program for the affiliate marketing purpose of the blog. HostGator affiliate program pay you a good amount for a single sale from your link. If you are blogging on WordPress related topic or blogging related topic, MyThmeShop is also a good option.
While promoting affiliate products is a great way to monetize your blog, you do need to be careful about what you promote. If you push low-quality products on your audience you may lose credibility in their eyes.
Therefore, whenever you want to promote an offer, make sure you’ve tried the product first and would recommend it to a friend.
