No Start Menu-
Even though many IT companies have done really stupid things in the past with some of their releases, Microsoft takes the prize as doing the most irritating thing of all and that is removing the start menu. As a result, it has added a great complexity to any rollout that happens with their OS in the corporate environment.

It’s not like when they made the change with MS Office 2007 which was a bit harder to get accustomed to, but had some potential. Now the changes are just useless and it will be really hard for everyone to get accustomed to them. As a result of these changes, many corporate users will just disregard this new release, because it only consists of unnecessary changes that make navigation very hard.

However, if there is one thing that’s obvious in all of this, which is the fact that Microsoft wants to challenge Apple by adding their Metro User Interface to the OS, which has had a lot of success in WP 7 until now. On top of that, with the new Windows 8, another thing that’s clear is the fact that Microsoft wants to extend its Windows platform on many other devices, like tablets, phones and so forth. However, it’s still not logical to remove a feature everyone is so accustomed to in order to achieve these goals.

Massive Training Need-
In general, the transition from Windows 2000 to Windows XP, Vista and 7 required users to learn a bit more about the new operating systems before they would be able to say they’ve mastered them in terms of usage. This made many of them inclined to making an upgrade, because there were plenty of things they could relate to. It has been a good trend over the years, because businesses don’t want to spend time and money on training because of Windows upgrades. And this is only one of the many serious reasons to take pass on Windows 8.

Fragmented Ecosystem-
If you’ve been in the IT world for some time now, you will remember that when it appeared Windows NT ran on a series of different platforms, like Power PC, MIPS and Alpha, but when it comes to Windows 8, we cannot say the same thing. Many of the tools you are using now for managing your corporate environment will be one hundred percent ineffective with the new release of Windows. The good news is that there are still chances, via BYOD initiatives, that companies will offer support for devices using the new Windows version, but on Windows 8’s part, it won’t do anything to encourage the companies on adopting the product.

Apple Owns the Tablet Space-
If you take a look at the market, it’s obvious that Apple had own most of the tablet space and even though there are some competitors out there, they will never be able to touch Apple’s position. And this is actually the exact market Microsoft targeted with the release of their new OS. Microsoft has big plans for us consumers, but it’s really a bit too early and kind of awkward to even think that it might stand a chance against giant Apple.

Even though Windows 8 has changed many things, there are still many reasons to take pass on Windows 8. For anyone who has used Windows it will be hard to get used to it and on top of that, it doesn’t actually offer too many benefits to really incentivize the upgrade.
