If you have already heard about this authentic Afghan Restaurant in Christchurch and looking for the Menu of the Afghan Restaurant Menu, let me tell you, there is no Menu in this restaurant. Now, if you are confused, let me make it clear to you, there are only 5 items in this restaurant which comes as a package in this restaurant. This is the daily menu of the Afghan Restaurant. Though you will be able to see one menu in a Menu board with prices, those items are not available and not updated for ages.
Whtch the video below that I have created:
The items which are available are –
- Kabuli Polao (a kind of Rice)
- Lamb Kebab (made up of lamb mince and the best item!)
- Chicken Kebab
- Chicken Curry
- Salad
If you order a plate here, you will get a full plate of Rice (you can get refill for free if the Chef is in good mode!), one Lamb Kebab, one Chicken Kebab, Chicken Curry and Salad. The whole combo will cost you New Zealand Dollar $20 only. What else do you need for $20? You can even make it cheaper. If you do not want the curry with the combo, you can request and the Chef will charge only $15.
Tips:
- Do not go during Day time. The Afghan Restaurant Christchurch is not open during day time.
- Before you go to the restaurant please make sure that you call them before you go. Cause they are not always open and only opens after 5pm.
- If the person picks up the phone, this means the restaurant is open today. If not, better luck next time. Sometimes the restaurant is closed for several days or even a week. There is no guarantee that you will get the restaurant open today!

I really feel they should create their own website (which they can do by buying a cheap hosting plan) for their restaurant because at this era this is very important to have a website. I know they will still get business but if they have a website, more people and tourists will be able to know about them and will be able to test their food.
If you are a first timers to the restaurant and want to order takeaway, you will have to go to the Afghan Restaurant Christchurch and order physically. He does not receive phone orders and you also cannot order your takeaway over the phone. You will see a big queue on a busy day. After entering into the restaurant though he will wave his hands or smile at you, you will get confused cause he is always busy. But believe me, you will be well taken care of. He will ask you you need how many means. When he says how many, then he means how many meals. A full meal contains Lamb Kebab, Chicken Tikka, Chicken Drumstick Curry, Rice and Salad. The whole meal will cost you $20. But, let me tell you one thing, if you are 4 people, then ordering for 3 people will be enough for 4 people. The Afghan Restaurant in Christchurch is situated on the busy Linclon road. You may get a road side parking in front of the restaurant, but if you cannot find one there, you can enter into the next street and will find a lot of parking.
The restaurant is always busy when they are open. So, always be prepared for some wait time in the queue. If you are lucky enough, you will get your order delivered within 30 minutes. You can have the food there or you can order take away. They do not take orders over the phone and you will have to be physically present there to get your food. There is only one main person who runs the restaurant and sometimes his brother helps him with the cashiering. Though there is only one person, who cooks the food, manages the restaurant, he is always smiling and takes care of everyone well.
Each and every item of this restaurant is authentic in flavour and the taste is amazing! Whether you are from East or West, you will love it. I specially like his lamb kebab and rice. If I order a takeaway, I do not order the curry. There is another Afghan Restaurant in Christchurch in Riccarton area which is Prince of Persia, but the taste of the food is not that good as the Afghan Restaurant Christchurch. So, it is always better to try to Afghan Restaurant in the Linclon road.
The Rice is quite different in flavour and you would love to eat more. The lamb kebab is made up of lamb mince and some secret ingredients. The chicken kebab is made up of from the chicken breast pieces. The chicken curry is good as well but not my personal favourite. Last but not the least, the salad is amazing. If you do not like it spicy, please request him not to put chilli sauce, then you will enjoy it.
