But what does the future hold? If you want to draw your own conclusions, it’s necessary to understand a couple of factors. It’s important to know the history of social media, but perhaps more critical a query than that is to answer the question of why social media is important today.

Social Media Today: Recreational

Social media is important not only recreational, but in a commercial sense as well. This is important to understand. It has become that much of a force in the world. It permeates every level of life. In terms of recreational use, in terms of our own day-to-day lives, social media has become important on every level. We use social media to connect with friends and family. We use it to learn about the world around us, whether through the news of the day, or by watching an instructional video on YouTube. And YouTube also serves as a way for us to watch anything from a filmmaker’s independent work, to music videos, to the trailers for the latest Hollywood blockbusters. We can watch, we can leave comments, and we can interact with other people who leaver comments.

We can share photos and videos instantly. We can interact and educate instantaneously and simultaneously.

Social Media Today: Business

Social media has become so important to a business that there are now businesses that deal solely in managing social media campaigns for other companies. Businesses understand today that they need to be able to interact with their customer base, whether it’s promotional or customer service. Businesses large and small maintain Facebook pages, Twitter accounts, and even use things like Tumblr. All of which are designed to communicate and sell at the same time.

Ask yourself this: How many businesses do you “like” on Facebook?

Social Media Today: The Future

Social media is constantly evolving. We know this, and we see examples of this every day. One thing we can know for certain is that every single one of us will be along for the ride. It should be an interesting one.
