What should we do and what should we not in case of data loss? Check out some of the useful tips below.
Do’s and Don’ts in Data Recovery
Many of us once faced this problem when we accidentally deleted some important data, or PC went down and we could not get access to the files we needed. And many of us do not know what to do in this case.
First of all, do not panic. Relax and calm down. Do not take any actions like copying new files or saving files to the hard drive, immediately downloading data recovery programs or anything, especially on the drive that is corrupted, as it may result in the lost file being overwritten. Even merely browsing the Internet without downloading or saving anything is harmful, as a browser saves cache to the drive and the system continually overwrites the data. Do not attempt to reinstall an operating system. Better shut down the computer and hand your hard drive to data recovery specialists.
If the hard drive is corrupted, do not try to freeze it putting the drive in the refrigerator and in no way expose the drive to the heat. Do not tap it or hit it. Never rattle, shake or squeeze the drive either. Such handling is likely to cause considerable problems. It may complicate and aggravate the data recovery process and even lead to irretrievable damage of the hard drive. Do not use the hard drive any longer. The more it is employed and the longer the affected drive keeps on running, the less the chances of successful data recovery are. Do not swap logic boards from another hard drive. It may also lead to significant problems. Do not try to defragment the corrupted drive and do not run CHKDSK. And in no way try to open the physically damaged drive. If the failing drive is external, try to connect it to another device to see whether it is bootable or not.
The moment you notice there is something wrong with the hard drive or system, immediately take backup of data. If the hard drive is making strange noises like, for example, clicking or grinding sounds, power off your PC. It is recommended to use another computer and additional drives when dealing with data loss.
If you do not specialize in the field of lost data recovery, for your own good, it is strongly recommended that you turn to raid data recovery specialists. Do not take the damaged drive separately, it is better to take the whole PC to experts. Remember, that DIY approaches may not work here. Why face such risks?
