It seems like companies are coming out with the technology of the future at warp speed, and no geek has any complaints about the new gadgets they can get their hands on. 2013 will be no different even thought these trends are changing the world.
1. Smart Watches :
Sure, a watch tells the time, but now it can also alert someone is calling or display the latest texts. According to rumors, even Apple is poised to get in on the game, while companies such as the crowd-funded Pebble have already shipped units to hopeful geeks who can’t wait to get one of these devices on their wrists.
2. Convertible Computers :
Tech-heads who have more electronics in their pocket than most offices can breathe a sigh of relief. The move to computers that are both laptops and tablets means one less device to carry around, charge and sync. Users can touch it, twist it and type on it, which is pretty much what everyone wants to do with computers in 2013.
3. Ouya :
Forget the cable company. Stop paying for satellite service. Online streaming is finally set to take the world by storm with Ouya, the Android-based console that promises content users can watch, but that’s not the focus. At under $100, Ouya includes games from Square Enix and NAMCO Bandai, and they’re all free to try. The television and radio apps are just the icing on the top.
4. USB Sleep and Charge :
Computer manufacturers like Apple and Toshiba have finally made it possible for consumers to charge their iPods, cell phones and other devices even as their laptops sleep. This is good news because it saves electricity, and it’s just more convenient. While not every new laptop is compatible with this technology, more will come on board in the coming year. Until then, techies will just have to make due with AC adapters in the meantime.
5. 3D Printers :
While 2012 was the rise of 3D printers, which can create everything from food to guns, 2013 will see more companies making these devices and more consumers finally getting their hands on them. Some creative minds have found interesting uses for 3D printers — a replica of Bond’s Aston Martin was printed this way, for example — and their creations. Anyone with the case to spare — most models are still over $1,000 — will have endless hours of entertainment, at least ,until the next big thing comes along.
