Getting those all important Facebook fans can be incredibly tricky, but keep them will prove more testing. It’s all about keeping your page engaging, by means of posting interesting content and, significantly, getting those fans to participate regularly.
One of the easiest ways to achieve this is through the status update. There are many ways to use this feature so let’s take a look:
- Posting a simple, but fan-orientated, status is a good place to start. What we mean by this is to ask for advice, personal stories, opinion or just funny anecdotes. For example – you could post a status saying “Lovely sunshine outside right now makes me think of picnics I used to have as a child, what’s your favourite sunny memory?” or “I need a new logo for my website and blog, does anyone have any good ideas?” These will surely bring fast responses as your fans will like to feel connected to you.
- Don’t be obsessed with flooding your fans walls with constant advertisements for your company, would you enjoy that? No, so your fans won’t either. Make your regular posts more interesting by posting topics that not only touch upon your company and industry but also about the community as a whole. An illustration of this could be Cake Company posting about birthdays – “How will you be celebrating your birthday this year?” and includes a video of someone eating a huge birthday cake without using their hands. This is funny; a talking point but still has content in it relating to the purpose of the page.
- Once in a while, share something completely random and unrelated. I have seen a few brave pages do this. When someone scans down their Facebook homepage and sees an interesting post, they will check who posted it – if they are surprised it was by you they are more likely to look out for future posts.
Another point to remember is sharing! Sharing is the key to keep existing fans but also attract new ones. Design beautiful content for your page – tabs, polls, ratings, videos, photos, etc – to call your fans to the page, but then you need to get them to share whatever it is you’ve created. One of the most elementary ways to do this is a competition of some sort, or a discount coupon. Place an advert on your page and simply add to the bottom of it and in the description “Share this and receive 10% off your next order” or something similar. People will love it as everyone loves free things. This will get them sharing it on their wall or in e-mails (this is up to you to decide) and thus will bring more of their friends to your page as they will want the freebie too.
More Ways to Get People Sharing:
Connected to the above is another way to get people to sign up and share/participate in discussions with you. Just put up a nice, keyword, incentive laced photo depicting a core product or service you provide and add a competition or reward to the bottom. I.e. “Like us on Facebook and be entered for your chance to win a new food mixer (or something similar)” This will bring many people to your page and if you continue to implement the above strategies you will keep your bounty of new found fans as well as the original ones.
One last tip to always remember – Facebook Pages are not there just for your marketing, but for the fans to know what’s new with your company, feel connected and to enjoy. Make sure you keep your page fan orientated.
