HTC DROID DNA vs Apple iPhone 5

Spread the love

The Apple iPhone 5 will always be a major force to reckon with when it comes to smart phones. With so many smartphones in the markets it is a cluttered space. The iPhone 5 has personality, sophistication and sex appeal. But other devices are entering the market with more cutting-edge features and potentially even more appeal.

One such phone is the HTC Droid DNA. This phone, with its amazing specifications, has arrived just in time for Christmas.  It is yet to be seen whether this new HTC will draw loyal iPhoners away, probably not but it will take a chunk out of the “First Smartphone” market.

HTC DROID DNA vs Apple iPhone 5:

Design:

When you look at the design of the two they are hardly comparable because they are so different. The small IPhone is nicer in the hand and easier to manipulate , but that is not what the HTC is looking for. The HTC is huge, harder to manage yes but with its size-related design benefits. The IPhone is lighter and thinner and its superb quality of design shines through. The HTC is not without style, although it is a bit more plain. It is tapered and has a finish that makes it look and feel good.

Phone Interaction:

The IPhone utilizes the iconic recessed button for Home. This prevents accidental operation and has a nice springy response to add feel. The Droid DNA uses three capacitive buttons, which do get activated in error. The HTC has chosen to adopt a notification light at both front and rear. Kudos to IPhone for their responsive, springy buttons that I feel gives it the edge in terms of operability in this area.

Ins and Outs:

Many features are shared in common between he two smartphones. Both have 3.5mm headset jacks, a noise-cancelling mic, and 8-meapixel rear camera, a flash and 1080p recording. However, the HTC adopts the popular and better microUSB port for charge, data and video-out. The Apple retains the Lightning dock port, which does not support video-out mode. The HTC also wins on the front camera with a higher spec 2.1-megapixel camera compared to the 1.8 on IPhone.

Display:

The IPhone 326 ppi density of display is trumped by the superior 441 ppi pixel density of the Droid DNA. In the specs sheets this is big, but in the real world our eyes struggle to see the difference except with the sharpest of images and the closest of looks. Both perform well when viewed outside, but the IPhone has the wider viewing angle and a higher level of output for brightness.

Conclusion:

Overall they are both great phones. It is down to personal preference. I personally prefer the HTC and am not on the IPhone loving blinkered train and can see that the HTC is slightly superior. I rate the IPhone 5 9.0/10. I give the win to the HTC Droid DNA with 9.5/10; an outstanding phone.
