Secure Remote Access from Any Device

Spread the love

These days we expect a lot from our mobile devices. Smartphones and tablets have come a long way but still fall short of offering true ‘PC in your pocket’ functionality. Sometimes whether in or out of the office you need access to a crucial file on your home desktop or your work laptop and you only have a Smartphone or tablet in hand. This is where a remote desktop protocol (RDP) client comes to the rescue.

What is RDP?

RDP is an application that allows the end-user to access a desktop computer, its files, email clients and even programs from laptops, tablets and Smartphones, simply by using an internet connection. There was a time when remotely accessing a computer was the realm of IT technicians and technophiles, something that your average employee might struggle with. But increasing emphasis on using mobile devices and working out of the office has meant that the whole process has been simplified and streamlined. Now it’s as easy as opening up a web-browser, such as Chrome, and logging in and you can access all your much-needed resources.

Flexibility and Accessibility:

In today’s business world more and more employees are bringing their personal devices to the workplace and these devices aren’t necessarily compatible with one another. What if you have an iPad running iOS or a smartphone on Android but you want to use a Windows application such as Excel? Thanks to a remote desktop protocol client you can do just that. It works across multiple devices and operating systems, meaning all you need is an internet connection and your desktop is within reach. Employees can continue to use the devices they’re comfortable with while improving efficiency and reducing the load put on IT services.

Increased Security:

It used to be that it was one computer for home use and one computer for office use. But now most of us work across several computers not to mention different mobile devices. This has posed problems in ensuring the security of sensitive information as mobile devices are inherently more vulnerable than computers connected to a company intranet within a firewall. RDP clients allow users to access their files and applications without storing any information on their device so that if, say, you lose your smartphone there’s no way any critical company information could find itself in the wrong hands.

An RDP client is a solution to rapidly evolving technology and the changing aspects of business especially in the mobile workplace. Now users have the freedom to access a desktop computer from any device and from anywhere.
