First let’s talk about what is technology? and after than we will talk about what is technology literacy.
Technology is the making, usage of tools and machines to ease our daily life. From the time we get up in the morning till we go to bed at night we are depended on technology. For example: Cellphones. I know few guys who will do almost anything to get their hands on the latest high-tech stuffs. If Apple releases a new iPhone you will see it in their hands. Same goes for television and laptops. And my nephew who is just two years old can open my iPhone and play his favorite Angry Bird.

Technology is helping us to move towards the future and moving real fast. Almost every month there is a new phone, computer or laptop released by one company or another. Technologies took mankind to the Moon and were now targeting Mars. People in the 19th century couldn’t even imagine these things. It makes me wonder what science has in store for us. But technology is so advanced; we get the glimpse of the future in sci-fi movies. Engineers take ideas from movies and turn them into reality. They already created Batman’s BatMobile.

What is technology literacy?
So, lets start discussing about what is technology literacy. Technology literacy is the knowledge about the latest technology and either be able to create new tech or be able to use them to full effects. Don’t think if you can call people, use Facebook and Twitter makes you literate in the department of technology. Fire is the greatest tech ever to be created by mankind and now we just use a matchbox. To us fast cars are big deals. It’s because technology keeps on evolving from time to time. Nowadays, technology literacy is much complex than the time when being able to use a computer was considered pure genius. Students can use a computer and internet to learn about their subjects and interact with other students and teachers via use of technology. That is called technology literacy. Likewise, engineers working with machines properly and pilots flying planes also counts.

There was a time when people use to go to a nice restaurant for dates. But at this age they do it on Skype. Now that’s lame …… if you know what I mean.
Why is technology literacy important in this modern world?
Well, the question should be why shouldn’t it be? We are dependent on technology for everything. It’s making our life easier. Sending a letter through mail takes from a day or maybe weeks to reach its destination. But if you know how to send an e-mails it will take you seconds. That’s why technology literacy is important. It will save your valuable time and help you do things smoothly. And this goes for every aspect of our lives. These days students in school learn everything through computers or I might say laptops, MacBooks and iPads.
Teachers are teaching via high definition projectors. We need to learn and know how to use the latest technologies because technology can help us or screw thing up. For example, your grandpa doesn’t know how to use a computer properly and he might permanently delete your important presentation for school. Simple mistakes can have disastrous side effects. So, we need to learn how to use technologies properly. If we don’t know how to operate the latest tech properly we will not be able to use the future tech easily. Let me give you a simple example: if you know how a drive manual cars you will be able to drive automatic cars far better than someone who only knows how to drive an automatic.
With knowledge of technology people can do many bad things. But I’m not here to talk about that because I always look towards the bright side. All I know is that without modern technology we will become blind and crippled. Maybe in the future we will see Iron Man and Batman fighting crimes. That would be awesome.
For our generation and the upcoming ones technology literacy is compulsory. Otherwise we will not be able to do anything.
