Before Discovering the Short Film Ahalya, Sujoy Ghosh at a Glance:
Who does not know much about Sujoy Ghosh’s, just for their information, Sujoy Ghosh is an Indian film director, actor and screenwriter. He is mostly known for his hit Hindi Indian movie Kahaani which was released in 2012 and Bidya Balan was in the lead role.
He was born in Calcutta and moved to London when he was 13 years old. He has an engineering degree and MBA degree from Manchester University, London. In the year 1999, he left his full time job as the South Asia head of the media division of Reuters.
Many of us do not know that he is the tag line writer of Kolkata Knight Riders IPL (Indian Premier League) cricket team which is “Korbo, lorbo, jitbo re” (করব, লড়ব, জিতবরে !).
About the Short Film Ahalya:
Recently, one of his short films “Ahalya” is storming the internet. The short film is been released in YouTube and already has gained a lot of laud from the commercial and art film industry.
Short film means expressing something large or long within a short video. “Ahalya” is very successful to do so. The name “Ahalya” is a character in Hindu Mythology who is the wife of sage Gautam and is been turned into cursed by his husband for infidelity. The short film is a directed by Sujoy Ghosh and the actors are Soumitra Chatterjee, Tota Roy Chowdhury and Radhika Apte. Though Radhika Apte is not from West Bengal and is actually from South India, her Bengali pronunciation in the film was not that perfect but the story-line, lighting and make are so amazing that it would keep you on the edge for the next 14 minutes.

Autopsy of the Short Film:
The 14 minutes short film tried to tell a short story from Ramayan. In the actual story, when Indra (Hindu God) comes to Ahalya in a disguise of his husband and makes love to her, Ahalya, even being innocent was punished by her husband, sage Gautam for infidelity and was turned into stone. But here in this movie, Radhika Apte in the role of Ahalya tries to take revenge to those by turning them into stones, who tries to take advantage from her. She and her husband fabricate a trap and he who falls into that trap, becomes stone. The movie also has English subtitle so those who do not understand Bengali, they can easily understand the dialogues of the short film. You will not be able to move your eyes while watching this suspense thriller. From my point of view, here Sujoy Ghosh asked one question to the society why Ahalya was punished while she was actually cheated and it was not her fault.
The moral from the movie if the inspector Indra controlled himself and did not go back to take advantage of Ahalya, he would have been saved and was not turned into stones!
